Frequently Asked Questions
A Coal India MT takes home approximately Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 82,000 per month in-hand. At coalfield postings with location allowances and free accommodation, effective take-home is higher.
All subsidiaries follow the same CIL executive pay scale. The difference is in location allowances - underground mining postings at BCCL or ECL get higher location allowances than surface operations.
Coal India shortlists MTs based on GATE scores in Mining, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, and Geology disciplines. A score above 550-600 is typically competitive depending on the year and discipline.
CIL remains highly profitable and financially strong. However, the long-term outlook for coal is uncertain given India's renewable energy transition. For a 15-20 year career horizon, CIL is still a strong choice.
