Frequently Asked Questions

SSC GD Constables start at Pay Level 3 with basic pay of Rs. 21,700. With DA at 60%, HRA and transport allowance, gross pay is about Rs. 47,000 in an X class city and in-hand after NPS is about Rs. 36,100 to Rs. 43,300.
In-hand is about Rs. 43,300 a month at X class HRA and Rs. 36,100 at Z class HRA. Constables living in force accommodation do not draw HRA, so their cash in-hand is lower, but they save on rent. Risk and hardship allowance adds more in border and insurgency postings.
Basic pay is the same in every force at Level 3. Take-home differs because of postings: BSF, ITBP and Assam Rifles in border and high-altitude areas get risk and hardship allowances, while CISF at airports and cities gets higher HRA when not in accommodation.
After 5 annual increments of 3%, basic pay is about Rs. 25,200. Monthly in-hand at X class HRA would then be about Rs. 49,400 at the current 60% DA, before any promotion.
Most CAPF constables live in barracks or family quarters provided by the force. When accommodation is given, HRA is not paid. Constables without accommodation receive HRA based on the city of posting.
For Class 10 pass candidates who are physically fit, SSC GD offers central government pay, NPS, medical cover and a clear path to Head Constable, ASI and Sub-Inspector. The trade-off is demanding duty and postings in remote areas.
